8/10 Clinton Staff review, 02 November 2012
The back of the sleeve is upside down. Is that intentional? Who knows in this topsy-turvy world of pop music. I’m also getting into my usual confusion with Italian boys’ names - this guy is called Andrea. I’ve also seem him being called Nicola. What a confusing world it is. Anyway Mr Andrea, according to the press release, has moved from Turin to London, firstly for the better quality of flapjack (he obviously ain’t been to Clitheroe!) but also for the boundary pushing dance culture (yup, he’s better off in London for that). To confuse things further the vocals sound like a female but I’m pretty sure it’s Mr Andrea again with his bag of tricks. It’s actually a gorgeous tune, laid back mesmerising chill out room (do they still have those?) dance music. Melancholy vocals atop sort of dubstep inflected grooves but with a light summery feel to it. I like! The flip has more complex rhythms, a little Balearic-sounding, almost (ridiculously) has a touch of the laid back Animal Collective in there. Lots of little effected clanging noises and warm synth pads. This guy knows his stuff, it’s dead impressive like.
