Now our Mike said these lot are “Shit, like a stoner rock Stone Roses”. Now, I’m usually respectful of his opinions but in this case he’s Mr. Wrong with stupid trousers on and his ass is a-hangin’ out. Then again that was the latest album he heard from these guys.....On this 2005 album they’re coming across more like The House of Love when they were making really tender and drifty bliss-scapes or the stuff the Clean were occasionally doing in the 90s when they expanded their sound to incorporate more psychedelic, longing wafts of guitar into this sparse, elegant pop beyond their rattly post-punk garage template!
So yeah, psychedelic but oh-so-understated in that respect. All the songs are quite long In the way that they gradually, gracefully unfurl too but they each engage you thoroughly. There’s a real sensitivity to this bands sound that makes me think that Mike needs to give them another go. I love it when guitars sing to me like this, the whole aura of this mini album is mid-paced, dreamy and relaxed with many gorgeous guitar textures and gentle vocals which force the songs to straddle the line between college rock slacker and lush cosmic Americana. A lovely surprise.....
