The second release on Dominic Fernow’s label comes from Kris Lapke who was Fernow’s right hand man at the Hospital Productions Studio. Bearing that in mind a full-on straight techno EP is probably not you would expect from the man but here it is and and it’s a freakin’ stormer.

It kicks off with the industrial pounder ‘Surviving Cultural Impedance’ which will tear shit up on a dancefloor with its ripping and bubbling acidic analogue synth riff, hard and heavy drums and angelic, celestial strings. A belter of a tune. Next up Is ‘Coupling Symbols’ with lush introspected synth orchestrations that could have fallen off of the back of an Artificial Intelligence comp on Warp back in the ‘90s. Pretty old school sounding but super sweet indeed.

‘Modal Ingenuity’ is another track aimed at the floor, with elements of dubby techno and a slight trancey edge to it (in a good way) it recalls everything from Sandwell District, Pacou, Mike Huckaby, Basic Channel, etc. Nothing mind-meltingly new but very well executed. All in all a great techno record and highly recommended.
