Well, once again I'm left confused whilst holding a record that the boss deems I’ll do the best job of reviewing, in this case because he realises I’m a huge fan of the film the music was commissioned for! Yeah, just because I adore this atmospheric Swedish vampire flick doesn’t mean I can plough my limited knowledge into a formidable chunk of mercurial text to describe the sounds on offer.

If you’ve not seen the film then you’ll be moved to tears by it, it really is a masterpiece. This sweepingly ominous contemporary classical OST is a fine body of haunting incidental works, loaded with chilling, grandiose strings, the most melancholic masterstrokes of gentle piano and thunderously moody orchestral effects. Hey, there’s even a spot of lilting Spanish guitar! To hear it on vinyl is a real treat and you certainly come to realise that as a neoclassical work Johan Soderqvist has maybe even surpassed, in scope, many of the more fashionable modern composers on the circuit.
