Now this guy produces a sweet take on his chosen genre, one that resides in that dusty old field over yonder ie. alt. country/Americana. He’s from Sheffield, erm, Steel City is this laddie and this is the follow-up to 2010’s ‘Fire Begot Ash’.
If you would care for some pointers he brings forth the kind of heartfelt melancholy and touching traditional magic that fans of Alasdair Roberts, Adrian Crowley and Micah Blue Smaldone will be familiar with. Rustic acoustic lullabies backed by a fine ensemble of players that flesh these plaintive yet soul-warming songs out into something intimate but always far-reaching. The playing doesn’t stray far from the safer confines of the style but his music is nothing less than a pleasure and a comfort to listen to.
