8/10 Andrew Customer review, 14th September 2014
I had high, high hopes for this album, Doom having blown me away with projects such as Madvillain, Operation Doomsday & Mmm Food as well as Viktor Vaughn. I'd also enjoyed Jneiro Jarels work on Kindred Spirits with his boogie broken beat type work. Of course the two weren't strangers having collaborated on a remix of Gazillion Ear and worked on Shape Of Broad Minds track Lets Go previously.
On first listen, I have to say I was a little underwhelmed, it wasnt bad, just didnt seem to hit the peaks I was hoping for. That said, perseverance rewarded. Grafually the production that had seemed a little unfocused seemed to reveal more depth, rather than what initially seemed a jumble. Its not as funky as Dooms solo albums, it isnt as immediately hooky as the Madvillainy album is. However trscks like Guv'nor or Winter Blues start to draw you in. The narratives become clearer and the album begins to reveal itself.
In summary this isnt Dumiles best work, however it is never boring, is well worth spending some time with and further demonstrates that JJ is a producer worth keeping an eye on too.
