Everyone’s favourite surf slackers are back with six brand new tracks of their trademark Welsh-language instrumental stylings. The 10” starts with a bang, with bouncy opener ‘Dauddegtri’ seeing them rocking hard and loose with some wild organ crunching and sweet licks. Then on ‘Dauddegdau’ they settle into a more restrained surf-ballady Shadows-esque sound which they maintain for the rest of the six tracks, although there’s still a few nicely obnoxious touches keeping it from getting too smooth. The bouncy, shrill organ breakdown and rock-out ending in ‘Undegnaw’ show they’re not afraid to get loose and have some Man Or Astro-Man?-style fun when the occasion calls for it.

The three cuts on the B-side are more strictly mid-paced and our Business Lady reckons they’re all the better for it, also citing the Shadows. There’s a real slinky silkiness to the guitar work which is reminding me of Mr Marvin of course, but also of Californian smooth surf legend Paul ‘PJ’ Johnson. Their sound harks back to golden era ‘60s surf but with touches of spy movie sass and punky Joe Meek cheek and casual Welsh indie cool thrown into the mix with irresistible and uplifting results. For my money these guys are one of the best instrumental bands in the country right now. If you enjoyed their LP then you’ll love this too.
