I’m more confused than ever. The website says ‘splinters’ the sleeve says ‘slabs’ the sleeve on the website looks different from the sleeve I’m holding in my hand. I way well be reviewing a completely different thing. The label has ‘Inside’ and ‘Outside’ rather than ‘A’ or ‘B’ and  I think I’ve been playing it at the wrong speed. What I do know is that this is a remix 12” complete with reworkings of tracks from the recent ‘Beatcroff Slabs’ album described as  “Spacious, creaking loops and swirling industrial drones combine to make a spacious, skittish computer-age nightmare of soundtracky malevolence” by our Mike.

The track that I think is Plaid is a dark eerie affair with trademark future-drums bursting half way through into a fantabulously  stair climbing melody reminding all that they still have the ‘chops’ as their last album proved. The three remaining mixes by Uexkull (ex Bitstream) ,Quinoline Yellow and Adapta are more beat driven with less emphasis on basslines and melody. Quinoline Yellow, however, sounds remarkably like ‘difficult period’ Autechre with tonnes of dysfunctional scattershot beats and hints way underneath of something approaching a tune.
