Well this is a weird little 7”. I’m quite interested in it right away because I really liked the split 3” CD Skitter did a while back with the brilliant Ela Orleans. The sleeves are all unique and pretty cool, with information about how your eyebrows express various states of arousal which has been giving us a bit of a giggle here at Norman Towers. There’s also a little insert inside where they photographically reenact each of the six emotions expressed on this record, which has apparently been made through electronically processed vocal improv.
It’s fair to say there’s not a lot of evidence of the original vocal tones here, and it’s more of a harsh noise soundscape of weird, disjointed sounds carving out quite genuinely evocative moods. It’s a bizarre, almost goofy concept which is pulled off with a certain amount of personality, wit and a surprising amount of soul, cutting through to the most primal impulses and laying them bare in wires and circuits. It’s kind of horrible, but it’s kind of human.

exquisite package here, limited to 100. screenprinted sleeves with obi strip and insert. this release sees the vocal improvising of p6 manipulated expertly by sound artist liam stefani - aka skitter. the ep is a representation of emotional states using electronic processing's collision with the unguarded human voice. joy / sadness /surprise / anger / disgust / fear are rendered with gurgles, burps, piercing screams manipulated into concrete-style atonal bursts, drawn out digital scramble and stabbing, unrecognisable blasts of power electronics. as austere as the idea sounds there's plenty of humourous touches to go with the visceral sense-stripping - alternate meta-narratives are suggested at every turn.
