Here he comes to save the day...after a morning of wet, wet rain and many so-so singles we finally have one that made everyone’s ears in the office prick into action. This is the first single presumably from Ariel Pink’s new album (yup, it’s called ‘Mature Themes’) and its a deliciously slinky soulful re-interpretation of Donnie and Joe Emerson’s 1979 smoocher featuring Dam Funk and sounding so seductively sassy that I’m inclined not to stop describing it with words beginning with ‘s’.

The vocals are just superb on here, I think there are two vocalists on here, one just slightly gravelly than the other but both are achingly wonderful mid gender Marvin Gaye impersonators with just the right amount of reverb on there to give it a smoky late night atmosphere. The track has been around for awhile, firstly turning up on mix tapes everywhere following its appearance on Donnie and Joe’s ‘Dreaming Wild’ album then in radically altered form on Hype Williams’ latest but this is a definitive version with all the stops pulled out ensuring we have in our hands a future classic. On limited 12” one sided vinyl. Buy.
