You have to wonder why everything has to be in a series. Phil reckons it goes all the way back to Pokemon. There’s a ‘collect the set’ mentality about a lot of remix projects of late and mostly they aren’t that great then they all get released on an album or as a bonus to a re-issued disc.

I’m struggling to see the point in this Hauschka series. Hauschka is known for a particular brand of piano-led neoclassicism but the tracks on this 12” are so far removed from what he’s known for that it’s difficult to know if it’s aimed at his fans or those of the dark Basic Channel techno that is present here. Steve Bicknell presents a dark droney techno piece that is neither here nor there. The Vainquer mix is much more up my street, the kind of shimmery dubby techno found on the likes if Kompakt or produced by Strategy. Its all coming out as an album at some point so maybe it will all make sense then. For now, the Vainquer mix does more than enough to justify the existence of this release.
