The late Elis Regina was one of Brazil's greatest jazz and ballad singers of the 1960s and '70s, a highly-regarded but tragic artist who was something like her country's version of Edith Piaf. This album, recorded in England with the backing of a half-British/half-Brazilian band is in my opinion one of her finest and most accessible records. Great CD to get if you want to form a favourable impression of her work, although in some ways it's unlike many of her other releases, which tend to be a bit heavier and melodramatic.
