Burning the Sunday oil last week getting all your lovely orders ready I was struck by how many reissues of obscure (and not so obscure) soundtracks are about at the moment and the rate in which you are purchasing suggests that this is what the people want. Well I have news for you...here is another. This dates from ‘81 and is part of the Italian horror genre.

The music is a wonderful mixed bag of string led gorgeousness, multi-part choral chants, ‘70s-style disco funk, much more realised and ambitious than some of the more pure synth-based stuff we’ve heard. The highlight is the oft repeating ‘Voci Dal Nulla’ - a smorgasboard of marching drums, cheesy bass, wandering flutes, heartfelt strings, everything AND the kitchen sink thrown in to a marvellous sonic soup.

Elsewhere despite the slightly cloying production style there’s some marvellous musical moments, some of which like ‘Suono Aperto’ isn’t massively far away from Van Dyke Parks territory. Remastered for 2012 ears by James Plotkin. You want this - you need this!
