Alt-J return with a second single (or maybe third...) [Or is it their fourth...? - RB] from their highly acclaimed ‘An Awesome Wave’ LP on Infectious. You’ve probably sussed out the appeal of this Leeds four-piece by now but for those of you who haven’t, ‘Tessellate’ is as good a place as any to start.

It’s a favourite of both fans and critics alike (so the press release tells me) and is probably the most memorable and inventive of the tracks I’ve heard by the quartet. Soothing yet strangely sleazy, it’s a subtle but very effective piece of post-Radiohead pop that certainly makes the most of its space and will no doubt please the lazy-legged summer festival crowd.

The B-side is a live version of the same tune beginning with an odd voice choir prelude before the group kick into a pretty much record-perfect version of the track, with the bonus of live room ambience to give it that extra breath of life. I can see why they’ve included it as opposed to the usual cutting room floor b-side fodder.
