I can’t figure out a lot about this duo, but they’re doing some kind of guitar and drum performance art where they improvise along to projected visuals. Well I think that’s what they do from reading their somewhat cryptic press release. Phil says he thinks they wear crazy costumes and stuff. That must be cool to look at. What I’m looking at, though, is a flat black spinning disc which Business Lady says “sounds like they just recorded a practice where they didn’t have any ideas for songs”.
Actually it has a little more form and structure than I expected for this type of arty improvised business, sometimes settling into repetitive grooves and building hypnotically on an arpeggio or whatever but generally speaking this is loose and weird and constantly shifting. Sometimes there’s a bunch of fuzz and wah and shit on the guitar and it’s like someone without a song is trying to imitate Ben Chasny. This is a difficult record to listen to and to be quite honest with you I don’t understand the point of something like this if you can’t see the visuals. It’s for fans of weird shit that’s difficult to listen to, I suppose. I know there’s plenty of you out there.
