Another Nomadic Kids Republic release! This one is by Nils Quak is a name I’m not familiar with but he’s released things on labels such as Kitty Yo, Progressive Form, Neo Ouija, Somehow, Audiobulb, Bad Panda (why didn’t anyone tell me there was a label called Bad Panda?) to name a few...mainly as MP3s though which is why I’m not familiar with him as I’ve no idea what goes on in the world of MP3.

Anyhoo this is the first of two albums on the label so if this takes your fancy there’s another coming soon. It’s a rumbly affair with strange dark throbbing noises coming out of my speakers. Thundery noises, micro-clicks and electronic melodies are the order of the day creating a somewhat oppressive listen. It’s an interesting drone record though as there’s plenty going on. When the beats appear they’re appreciated as they add an extra dimension and shift things along a notch.

The beats sound like they’re constructed from vinyl clicks so they have a minimalist vibe to ‘em. It’s an odd one as there’s a dark oppressive thing going on and it’s also uplifting at times. Hot and cold...almost like someone’s turned the mixer tap on and got the right balance for someone who wants to listen to something which is both dark yet uplifting. It’s a very interesting sounding album!
