8/10 Clinton Staff review, 01 June 2012

I’ve always had a soft spot for Australian pop - The Go-Betweens, The Canannes etc etc etc. Here we have a split album of two of Australia’s new up and coming popular music groups. Peak Twins do a kind of lo-fi Phil Spector thing occasionally sounding like a lo-fidelity rehearsal room take on that Panda Bear stuff that everyone likes. It also recalls Adventures in Stereo in places, unfathomably wrist slashing cover of The Searches ‘Needles and Pins’  is an oddity though. On the flip the preposterously named Scott and Charlene’s Wedding (Aussies are OBSESSED with ‘Neighbours’) have that striped sunlight sound of The Go Betweens with trebly guitars, splashy drums but are a much more raggle taggle outfit with their lovingly disjointed harmonies. They head a little bit further off into a miniature Stooges  for ‘I Wana Die’ (their spelling) but the charming ‘My World sums up the record  -tuneful slipshod honest to goodness indie pop of a very high calibre.
