8/10 Mike Staff review, 31 May 2012
Ooh, I don’t know a thing about this band but these Night Peoples tend to be right about a lot of things so I’m all ears here. What’s going on on this record is a nice big slice of ‘80s-influenced lo-fi synthpop, with quite nonchalant, almost chatty girl vocals and muddy retro synth tones constructed into weirdly nostalgic little post-punkish ditties that kind of sound like if Stereolab were a garage band. And of course that’d be a very cool thing indeed. Don’t pretend you don’t agree.
We’ve got loads of muddy weird tones, with guitars and bass sometimes present but synths always at the fore, that remind me of early Intelligence, early DEVO, and Broadcast in places as well. I’m running out of things to say about this record but that’s not to say it isn’t mad decent and worth investigating.
