Oh yes, this is ticking lots of my buttons. This LP’s got a screenprinted sleeve and six reasonably lengthy instrumentals with the focus being heavily on lo-fi psychedelic fuzz guitar riffing, taking the burning-amp tones of The Heads and injecting them with a little White Hills-esque riffy restraint for a nonstop soup of churning, muddy, overblown guitar workouts.
The guitar tone is admirably cracked and distorted, there’s clean, repetitive, melodic basslines that remind me a little of Hookworms, particularly when he takes it down a notch for the repeato scree of epic closer ‘Silent Dust’, carving out dense slabs of crushing, hazy psychedelia with a bit of a Sylvester Anfang II vibe which take up a sizeable chunk of the second side. For the most part this LP’s much more balls-out rockin’ than the Anfang lads, though, and the powerful axe-mangling on the first side especially sounds to me like it’ll stand up very well to repeated listens. Blazing stuff.
