Aw yeah. I wish I was on enough drugs to enjoy this album properly...it features the dusky twinklings of Steve Gunn getting up close and personal with the electronic twitchings and dronings of a man I’m less familiar with named Manuel Padding.
Basically what that means for you, the listener, is lots of mostly ambient electronic dronings and whistlings and throbbings from Padding accompanied by Gunn’s free-flowing mystical guitar chunterings as he twinkles, sometimes furiously, sometimes delicately, around his strings busting out all sorts of ethereal shapes which build into a maelstrom of speed strummed chords with sweetly picked psychedelic bits over the top.
It’s quite heady, dense-sounding stuff for a duo once they hit their stride, and it’s the kind of headphone-oriented record which is just completely involving as your mind tries to keep tabs on all the different layers of tone whirling around its earholes. Great late-night mystical vibes and a cool-looking sleeve to boot!
