- Freedom 2K by L.A Vampires By Octo Octa
9/10 Li'l Biz Staff review, 30 May 2012
The incestuous nature of 100% Silk is getting more and more confusing with each release, so much so that even the title of this record is confusing. Is it an Octo Octa record featuring LA Vampires? Is it a collaboration? Who is Octo Octa anyway?
All these questions will have to answered by someone else as I don’t have a fucking clue. What I do know is that 100% Silk are getting pretty damn good at this whole luxurious classic house/techno/ballroom sound they’ve been attempting to reclaim since the inception of the label a few years back. Octo’s 12”s are always mad decent and this is no exception.
I’m gonna assume this is a collab with label head honcho Amanda Brown a.k.a LA Vampires as there’s tons of singing on these tracks. They add a little spice to these already pumping late ‘80s style ballroom jamz, which incidentally, are verging on straight up rave-pop, of the like we are more than familiar with in the UK. Cosmic arpeggios fly about, staccato piano lines are everywhere and almost inaudible sub-bass brings the CHILL. These cuts ooze pure posi soul-power as standard. That’s all I need to say on the matter. If you’re a fan of the label this is a must have.
