6/10 Clinton Staff review, 22 June 2012

So this is the guy who used to have a magnificent ukelele but threw it away to create the kind of summery pop that sounds the spit of Gruff Rhys. It’s all Beach Boys type melodies and harmonies but done in a lo-fi rinky dink style with drum machines and synths so tinny that your ears feel as if they’ve been irrigated.

Some of the melodies are great  - really summery type things with cascading choruses that are pretty memorable, particularly single ‘Fun’ which includes a few guitars is a pretty special thing, but after a few songs the samey cheap production wears a bit thin and you are longing for something a bit more sophisticated. It sounds uncannily like early ‘80s Norfolk popsters The Farmer’s Boys, another band who had great tunes but tinny production, which in 1982 you could sort of forgive.

5/10 Joe Customer review, 12th December 2017

Dent May has always been someone who I've heard in passing, so when I saw that one of his older records (AKA this one) was on sale, I decided to pounce. I was quite excited a first, however I soon came to realise that all of May's tracks within this LP near enough all follow the same formula (no wonder why it costed about the same amount as a 12"). "Best Friends" is the only track that won me over, however it feels like the fancy packaging and white vinyl is where most of this record's money went (the download card doesn't work any more too: boooo.)
