8/10 Mike Staff review, 15 May 2012

Phil informs me that Marcia Bassett usually plays noisy music and Samara Lubelski usually plays nice melodic music so I'm going into this with absolutely no idea what to expect. As it turns out, what we have here are two lengthy live drone meditations in which Bassett plays guitar and Lubelski plays violin, teasing out gently unfolding layers of organic string sound and throbbing feedback. It's actually very pleasant and relaxing and kind of brings to mind the Rain Drinkers if they stripped their multi-instrumental approach right back to just guitar and violin drones - that same sense of detail and space and melodic instinct.

Sometimes it's quite layered, but I like it best when they strip it down to an awkward level of minimalism, with conspicuous swoops of tone and buzzing-insect shimmers. At its prettiest it's also bringing to mind that recent CD by mysterious duo Church & State, a spiritual sense of stillness paired with a very human and kinetic sense of process. Marvellous for clearing all that clutter out of your mind.
