8/10 Li'l Biz Staff review, 16 May 2012
The mysterious entity known as No Ceremony return with a second self-released 10” and a head full of dreams and big ideas. First up, as with the first 10” - I have no idea which is side A and side B. No bad thing mind as they appear to be two different versions of the same tune. The big news with 10” No. 2 is the inclusion of master guitar-smith and stage right Pixies dude Joey Santiago. He's credited on the sleeve so I'm assuming this goes beyond merely sampling the man. It's like when Johnny Marr joined the Cribs innit...
So, is this a telling sign? How have these supposed upstarts managed to enlist the assistance of one of the indie-rock's finest guitar players? And how can they afford to release all their own tunes? These questions will be answered later - by proper journalists...probably. For now all you need to know is that this is one of them ultra-hip, powerful, heartfelt electro-pop numbers. the words post-dubstep and all that bullshit will come up regularly in other peoples reviews but not here. To me this sounds like Linkin Park produced by M83. It's the sound of today.
