- All That We See And Seem by The New Lines
9/10 Brian Staff review, 10 May 2012
This lot were twinned with Still Corners on a recent GPS 7” and now we have their debut album ready for consumption. But you're not allowed to eat it, oh no, if you eat your copy you probably won't get another one as there's only 300 numbered copies (sob!) I'm not being an anus here but I reckon I like this even more than 'Creatures of an Hour' and I dug that a great deal! I don't quite know how they came to realise their lovingly blended sound. There's so many influences throughout but rather than the result being a cluttered mess or hopelessly derivative, it arrives in your mind finely crafted, elegant & totally blissed out! Space rock; wild cosmic vintage keyboards, dreamy chiming 60's guitars, cinematic waltzes, zoned-out Zombies/Syd Barrett vocals....it's all here in spades moulded into songs that will absolutely delight fans of Broadcast /the USofA, The Clientele, early Floyd....God, you know we can't quite put our finger on it? They sound utterly classic and some of the tunes are making me feel a bit weepy they're so strong & infused with real knowing and wonder. I think they've got that longing, dreamy swirling sound that only bands of a certain pedigree muster, In a nutshell The New Lines have made a corker debut, I wouldn't leave this for a second, they'll be gone by Monday.....
