The Great Pop Supplement have been kind enough to release Umberto's 'Welcome To The Chillzone' on 12”. Originally released by Solid Melts in a limited run of 150 tapes, it's nice to see these tracks have been given the 45rpm treatment and redressed in a awesome new The Hitcher/Fright Night/Knightmare inspired sleeve design. His recent sleeves have been nothing short of genius - and, off course, his music is evolving/improving too. You'll know him as one part of Expo 70 if not as a fully fledged solo artist (his 'Prophecy of The Black Widow' and 'From the Grave...' LPs were both top sellers here at Norman's) in his own right.

Here we are treated to two sides of cosmic soundtrack style business on an eerie Goblin meets Carpenter tip with Klaus Schulze on standby as cosmic ambience advisor. It's one long evolving synth piece split over two sides and sees Matt Hill working his magic with ghostly choirs of voices, chiming percussive synths tones and minimalist beat keeping. It could almost be on a new-age tip if it wasn't for the harrowing synth drones and Halloween-esque spookiness of the whole thing. Well X-Files. Another excellent piece seeing its way to wax. Only got 20 so you'll wanna be quick with this.
