On this tape the Black Twig Pickers have been captured in their natural surroundings, nature documentary style, picking out sparse little traditional tunes while frogs chirrup away in the background. On the other side we have the sound of a ceilidh that has been recorded on a hidden microphone buried deep inside a giant water balloon, and then some wibbly weirdness that's making it sound like there's something wrong with our tape player...then it closes out with what I believe is the rumbling of a train, which actually works pretty well as a little piece of ambience in its own right. This second side is pretty confusing and obtuse, though, working more as a field recording than a listenable performance piece, and I very much prefer the dusky and clearly recorded picking on the first side if I'm honest. Oh, there's cool lino-printed sleeves courtesy of the talented Jake Blanchard too, 'cause this whole Tor Press dealio is all about the motherfreaking lino prints, dude. Believe.
