With a name and logo like these guys have I was expecting some kind of punk rocky Americana gubbins on this CD here but actually what my ears are experiencing as I write this is more of a dignified, post-rocky take on Ennio Morricone-esque textures and melodies, but with a withdrawn, hushed sense of space and pace. There are times that the throbbing jazzy neoclassicisms have a bit of a '70s spy theme feel to them too; certainly the obvious reference points for me as I listen to this are soundtrackers...Lalo Schifrin, Bernard Herrmann...there's elements of these composers here, but imbued with a malevolent quietude that conjures up a real old-school filmic creeping paranoia, from back before the glitch crew got their hands on it. When it gets a bit more lighthearted it's actually reminding me a little of the cafe feel of Ralfe Band's excellent 'Bunny & the Bull' soundtrack. A really interesting and evocative record.
