6/10 Clinton Staff review, 01 June 2012
Loud drums these lot. Very loud drums with vocals that border on caterwauling, and guitars which have your regulation trebly Vampire Weekend sound and a general vibe of David Byrne goofed up on too many E numbers. I wouldn’t like to be trapped in a lift with them thats for sure. The music is a quirky brand of lop sided rhythms influenced no doubt by Captain Beefheart and the like but the vocals are just totally overbearing - think Jeff Buckley, Matt Bellamy and the singer from Stump all rolled into one and unable to shut up for a FUCKING MINUTE! Its expertly played and produced but I just can’t hook into it at all -the songs don’t seem to have kind of melodic quality to them and there’s no twists and turns which get your tummy feeling all funny.Instead its full on shouty, self conciously wacky and.... to sum up: Muse playing Bogshed B sides and not as good as that sounds. Good drum sound though.
