On this new Sigur Ros record the superstar Icelanders sound exactly like Sigur Ros. It's proper warm and lush and epic. They don't rock out very much, just lots of shimmering post-rock with nonsense vocals and the occasional epic sentimental Godspeed-aping build-up.
If you like Sigur Ros, it's another Sigur Ros record. If you don't, well, it's still another Sigur Ros record. You don't have to buy it if you don't want to, and frankly if you buy it and don't like it I think you've only got yourself to blame because it's not like they've switched up the formula. Rousing emotional slow-builds custom-made for heartstring-tugging montages on Simon Cowell shows.
9/10 Jack Customer review, 2nd July 2015
Some critics saw this as something of an overly slow and ambient affair, more in the style of Jonsi and Alex. I couldn't be happier with this release, it reminds me more of their earlier stuff but in a fresh way. It shows just how much integrity the three artists have in their works when they go against the commercial grain and not creating an album full of sweeping orchestral arrangements and whimsical melodies. Valtari offers a quieter more introspective Sigur Ros and has some of their most ornately textured songs yet.
