- Glitter by Dead Mellotron
6/10 Clinton Staff review, 08 June 2012
Comes in amazing sleeve where the name of the band and the title is written in glitter and is on white vinyl with a download code. From there things get less interesting; the music is a 2012 version of shoegaze influenced by Chapterhouse, Revolver and the like - the opening track is a semi instrumental drifting off into Eno-like ambience which lasts far too long.
The next track appears with the limpest drum beat known to man and seems to be going nowhere before bursting into a decent chorus with lots of intertwining guitars before drifting off into a kind of Pale Saints like extended jam. It’s hard for me to review this subjectively as I used to hear demo tapes of groups of plumbers from Derby in 1991 who sounded better than this.
I don’t know if a poor pressing is affecting things but its just so dreary and meandering and wishy-washy. It’s fine to be influenced by and to raid from the past but for fuck’s sake bring something new to the table. AND DON’T PUT AUTOTUNE ON YOUR VOCALS. That all said the kids all dig Pains of Being Pure at Heart and I think they are shit so what the hell do I know. Only 200 copies so if you do like it be quick!
