Got another newie in from the ever-reliable Time Released Sound today, available in both insanely-fancy-packaging and slightly-fancy-packaging editions, as is the TRS way. This one's from mysterious “sound sculptress” Iden Reinhart, aka Strie, and it's a gentle neoclassical-tinged ambient collection which ranges from lush, heartstring-tugging piano and strings to detailed rumbly ambience, occasionally drifting into more awkward, almost concrete-esque soundscaping with snippets of synth and strings and whooshes and rumbles forming slightly unwieldy repeated shapes to hypnotic effect. For the most part it's soothing electro acoustic stuff with gently swelling strings, plenty of tinkling piano, and lots of detailed micro-electronics which really open the sound up when you're listening through headphones. It's hard to really do justice to these kinds of records when you're reviewing them in a noisy office during daylight hours because this stuff's really ideally suited to post-midnight solitude. I do have headphones on but I can unmistakeably hear the strains of Madvillain poking out over the top which somewhat alters the overall mood. Not enough to stop me from being able to tell it's gorgeous though.
