9/10 Mike Staff review, 25 April 2012
We're all pretty fond of Divorce and their unhinged bombastic Arab on Radar-ish scuzzy noise-punk stylings so I've bunged their side of this split on first for the lads. We've got two songs from them. The first one's the expected deranged screeching car smash of a track, and then the second one is slower and has a sludgy Melvins/Noothgrush-style feel to its slow, dirgey grind with gibbering almost David Yow-ish vocals spattered over the top. When it gets going it sounds dead grungey like a more histrionic TAD or something. Totally 'orrible and snotty, just how I like it. Flip it and there's four songs from Jailhouse Fuck, who I've never heard before. It's weird, frantic, restless post-punk business from these guys, like a heavier Brainiac, maybe? They're certainly the first band to come to mind, but the tones here are more scratchy and lo-fi than you'd have heard from them, and there's certainly more than a hint of that party-noise style made popular by the likes of Arab on Radar, Gay Beast, Le Shok, Erase Errata, etc. Their last song's a muddy gothy lo-fi thing that's a bit like Dirty Beaches until it gets noisier but I prefer it when they're a bit more hyperactive. Obnoxious, brain-mangling DIY noise fun all round here. Get in.
