Having seen Michael Chapman play a few weeks ago I'm all of a sudden a fan of his (and it looks like I've converted Phil too!). He really is a superb performer, straddling the line between Jack Rose-like finger picking and more traditional singer songwriter type stuff. Now in his seventies, he seems to have a higher profile than ever and deservedly so.

This compilation features a grab bag of the great and the good paying tribute to the man including Meg Baird, Black Twig Pickers, Hiss Golden Messenger, Maddy Prior, Bridget St John, Thurston Moore and many more. There's something about Chapman's evocative playing and performance that can't quite be captured by others but they give it a bloody good go and put their own personal slant on it (Thurston's version is particularly great) and the range and quality of artists present shows what high esteem the man is held in.
