8/10 Mike Staff review, 17 May 2012
On this album here duo ROM are throwing down 12 quite lively instrumental tracks with a stumbling physicality mixed with whip-tight grooves for a weirdly sensual mix of experimental rock and Euphone-style dancey times, with synth drones and repetitive basslines and dancey repeato drum grooves and weird drifty guitar work being the order of the day. There's elements of Battles or maybe Elephant9 in here but there's more of a rough and ready delivery, and the aforementioned tight-loose dynamic where drifty synths and vague rhythms give way to precise grooves gives this pair's music quite an individual and charming flavour.
It's metronomic and astral but also earthy and playful, and it tends to be more engaging than irritating, with my standout track being the technicolour electro twinkling hip-hop groove of 'Kids', whose bright melodies come across like a really restrained Apparat Organ Quartet. Nicely done.
