8/10 Clinton Staff review, 11 May 2012
This is kind of minimal dark soul, in fact main Cold Speck Al Spx describes it as 'doom soul'. The main track is a slow burner, her distinctive voice is underlaid by various instruments slowly building but never reaching a crescendo. On the flip over simple piano and lightly clomped drums she sings bleakly, coming across as a haunted Mahalia Jackson. I'm not sure where this will sit in the scheme of things - too downbeat and introspective for the radio, a little mainstream for the underground. There'll be a place somewhere, probably on Jools Holland. I'm sure he'll go a bit mental when he hears her.
