Lovver Shaun Hencher returns with this EP from his new Virals project. The lead track ‘Coming Up With The Sun’ is a great bit of garagey power-pop with Beach Boys-esque harmonies which is reminding me quite a lot of Dinosaur Jr’s BB-pastiching ‘Take A Run At The Sun’. This style continues through the EP, with clear Motown influences and nods to the whole girl group/doo wop movement, but with a hazy modern dreampoppy sheen to keep this from being pure revivalism. I’m sure there were quite a few bands who sounded like this in the ‘90s.

Flip it and ‘Gloria’ has a bit of a ‘Isn’t Anything’-era MBV thing going on, and I’m pretty sure the guitars are getting more jagged and exuberant at this point, definitely hitting the ‘90s vibes hard now. Finally closer ‘Dig The Moon’ is just a straight bit of twee boy/girl jangle-pop business. Very British, they’ll go down well at Indietracks I’m sure. Liking the cheeky Tom Petty photo on the back cover too.
