With 'Harmony Corruption' came a new singer and a new direction. Napalm Death had always been about extreme speed and extreme anger, and nothing was more extreme than taking grind directly into mid-tempo death metal. The album contains everything that Napalm Death would try on and discard throughout the coming decade: hyperspeed grind noise, hardcore grooves and pummeling death metal. Tracks such as "Suffer The Children" "The Chains That Bind Us" and "Unfit Earth" encapsulates what Napalm Death has always been about all about.
Then-new vocalist Barney Greenway makes his presence felt immediately on the opener "Vision Quest" which opens in squeals of feedback and blurring riffs before he unleashes his trademark roar. The production makes the music a little bit hard to hear everything; the guitars are distorted to the max and the drums sounds a bit hot and boxy.
But despite this, 'Harmony Corruption' showed the world that they were able to mature and improve in radical fashion, whilst maintaining the aggression that defined their earlier grindcore releases.
