9/10 Brian Staff review, 13 April 2012

This is a very gorgeous LP from the lesser-spotted Dictaphone. To try to do their languid jazz reflections, graceful classical leanings and micro-electronics justice in words is a difficult beast to wrangle with but i'll soldier on. After releases years back on CCO they'e now presenting their silky movements on what I must term as a boutique label extraordinaire, one we're alwys proud-as-punch to host. Songs unfulrl tenderly as pattering drums, melancholic strings and woodwind mingle in a dream-state. Further on looming bass wisps fidget around an unobtrusive clicky beat whilst vibraphone adds an incredibly peaceful magic aura. The music veers often towards modern classical with those oh-so-tender and improvisational jazzy inflections that add a smoky mischievousness and loose-limbed resonance to proceedings. Not afraid to dally with freeform tumbling structures and musique concrete/field recordings not to mention disembodied vocal snippets that embellish an already intoxicating brew of loose, reflective organic sounding music, 'Poems From A Rooftop' is a heady, experimental and rewarding listen full of genuine wonder and countless surprises.
