Room 40 have been delivering experimental music for quite some time now and if you thought they'd been quiet of late then think again as here's a new release by Aussie duo Anthea Caddy & Thembi Soddell. For their second release they're reshaping (and I quote from the press release) 'aural representations of physical environments to express psychological experience. ' I've read that back a number of times now and I'm not 100% sure what it means. I've just read it some more and I'm still none the wiser. It's constructed with sampler and cello and it's been recorded in scientifically controlled spaces and unpredictable natural/man made environments. So there's your facts! You get a brooding uncomfortable listen which is spacious and sparse sounding and it falls plumply into the sound art/avant garde category. Personally I'd find this a record to dissect and understand what's going on as it's interesting. Micro noises are interspersed with creaking cello strings and strange otherworldy noises popping up for good measure. One for you experimental studious types.
