Allo Darlin' don't really suit my musical sensibilities and there's probably better people out there to review this record so apologies in advance. As you're probably aware, Allo Darlin' are the darlings of the UK indie-pop scene. Formed and fronted by Australian “songbird” Elizabeth Morris, they make a thoroughly irresistible blend of indie-pop styles that make Steve Lamacq cream his pants every time. He can't help himself - those grade A indie-pop melodies transport him right back to those innocent days before his skin went translucent.
'Europe' is the group's sophomore long-player and is already everyone's album of the month even though it's not actually out yet and nobody's actually heard it. The reason? Allo Darlin' are the complete package and the real deal of course. Infectious pop ditties that very rarely take any risks and deliver in spades. It's almost as if they've been bred in a laboratory specifically to entertain the hair-clip crowd at Indietracks. On 'Europe' you get a sense that Morris is a little more contemplative than usual as some of the songs are a little sad at times. She even sings in a faux Irish accent on opener 'Neil Armstrong' and there's country songs too! Combine that with the lightest of production touches and a big push at BBC 6Music and you've got yourself a unstoppably powerful hit record...probably.
