8/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 13th February 2015

Brendan Benson is a pretty reliable artist if you just want a nice bit of guitar pop. He is best known for being Jack White's mate and a member of The Raconteurs, although his brilliant 2002 album "Lapalco" made him temporarily known for his own music. "What Kind of World" reminds me a bit of The Posies, or certainly some of Ken Stringfellow's solo work. The album opens with the title track which is pulsating and melodic. "Bad For Me" is a ballad with great chorus which is likely to stick in your head until the chorus of the following track, "As of Tonight" wipes it away with more infectious catchy-ness. With the odd exception, that's pretty much the pattern this album sets out. The man can write a tune. I think is probably his best album since the aforementioned "Lapalco".
