6/10 Mike Staff review, 11 April 2012

Ah, The Bell Jar, that was a cheery book, wasn't it? Here we've got Louise & the Pins laying out a sultry and dare-I-say miserable little number with lush understated backing and a Winehouse-esque vocal delivery. I've not encountered this chanteuse previously but as far as this single is concerned it's accomplished and cinematic-sounding mournfulness on both sides. Best suited to smoky bars that no longer exist, it's a little bit anonymous and it is sort of bumming me out a bit but it's super-pretty and graceful and some people like records that make them feel sad. If you're one of those people you will like this. If not, expect to hear it in the sad part of a romantic comedy after our heroes have been estranged by some kind of terrible misunderstanding in a cinema near you soon.
