Another cracking seven here, a collaboration between Youngs and Fowler who’ve decided to experiment with modular synthesis and experimental rhythmic excursions. This first side, ‘Yellow Gardens’ I think, sounds very unusual, almost Throbbing Gristle-like in its stuttering eerieness. The android synth chunters and dive-bombing wails of unrest are mingled with druid-like low-moans and tons of crazy unnerving effects. You could just imagine Genesis having a caustic grumble about something unsavoury over the top of this.

The flip is of a similar nature, the proto-electro stuttering sounds like it’s been backward-masked and sped up to make up the rhythm track whilst the escalating and descending bendy synth stab mong-out is so twatted and freaky that Black Dice just rang up crying asking if they can borrow this record to sample on their next album. Ace all round in what Mike reckons is a riso-printed sleeve.
