- Desperate In Her Heavy Sleep by A-Sun Amissa
This is a new project straight outta that Northern metropolis we call Leeds and features a few folks already known to many for a particular brand of dark bewitching ambience. Particularly Richard Knox, Gizeh founder and Glissando man is here, stretching his wings with this new collaborative project of which this is the first full length fruit. The album unfurls slowly, all plucked heavily reverbed guitars and eerie ambience slowly drifting off into quiet nothingness. The main comparisons would be the spooky post rock of Canadians Set Fire to Flames and the quieter interludes of Godspeed, Silver Mt Zion et al. I'm enjoying the narcoleptic Morricone like twanged guitars of 'Dislocated Harmony' which are superceded by a mesh of drone and weird whistling noises like the last train slowly, drowsily approaching the station. And if it's all sometimes a little too pretentious (the sleeve notes, that pure Dakota Suite title), at least it is the hum of inquiring minds at work.
