- The Tape Of Vol.2 by Odd Future
It's not easy to just sit down a review an Odd Future album. There's so many MC's, producers and artists in the mix it's hard to absorb in one sitting. It's also possible not to be blown away by the sheer ambition and character present in these productions. It's like The Clan or Native Tongue all over again. It's like an explosion of creativity. You've got yer ambient synth blazers, yer pumped up macho flavors, yer smooth and soulful cuts and, of course, a hefty dose of the straight fucked up. Lyrically well, who knows what the hell is going on. I can't tell if all the money and bitches talk is an all out tongue-in-cheek parody of the retarded Hip-Hop you hear (and have heard) doing the rounds on the airwaves or if it's just a new generation of kids talking it up tough. Either way, I can put it aside for these uber-fresh tunes. It's exciting to hear a collective like this really get at it without having to resort to the indie route. Love the fact that this is on Columbia. Surely it's gonna end up costing the label a fortune? In conclusion, we all know Odd Future are trailblazing the most death-defying cuts in Hip-Hop 2012 so who gives a fuck what some 9-5 working, 30 something loser at Norman Records thinks. Dolphin bud.
