Oh you are going to love this. How could you not?! Its a wonderfully packaged collection of home produced electronic soul from the 1970's and 1980's. It is at once eccentric, bizzare, funky, lo-fi, soulful, edgy and wildly forward thinking. The origins of the music are tied in with home recording becoming more affordable in the 1970's and artists started to eschew expensive studios in lieu of attempting to create their own sounds at home. Thankfully, somehow Chocolate Industries have unearthed some of these rare recordings and unleashed them on this excellent comp. Highlights include Jerry (JG) Green's 'I've Finally Found the Love I Need' which is a dark claustrophobic stomp wildly at odds with his background in Motown act The Contours. The Cotillons laid back 'If You Give a Dance' is a gorgeous shimmery slab of introverted disco, whilst USAries 'Are You Ready to Come (with me)?' is an outrageously sensual slab of sexually explicit funk. I've barely scratched the surface here as throught this is ace and includes two tracks by lauded lo-fi funk master Jeff Phelps. In addition, there is a lovely booklet with nice essays and histories of each track.
