Wow, wow, wow. This is an incredible, beautiful package of funky disco and modern soul, just as it states on the label. Jam packed like the best dancefloors with incredible tracks that will blow your mind. Luther Davis with You Can Be A Star is a great start, a real soul groover, a classic on the soul scene, but one of those tracks that just makes you wonder - how was this not a massive hit? There is no let up in quality, the UPC Allstars come correct with Don't Get Discouraged before Pure Essence put a little rock into the Funk with the Sly Stone or Rare Earth ish Wake Up.

Further highlights are provided by Rhythm Machine, Leon Mitchison and Record Player all providing superior funky soul that just begs for a rewind. There's a touch of that currently oh so fashionable AOR soul with Key & Cleary and Clifford Nyren, however there's enough grit in the funk to keep these vital even when the yacht rock fad dies. It should be pointed out that these were reissued as 12"s via the Soul Cal sub label of Now Again long before AOR disco became 'a thing'.

There are many more tracks to be discovered on this comp, even before you lose yourself in the generous book that accompanies this set. Honestly, this is a goldmine of sweet music that you'll thank yourself for buying.
