This is an interesting one. XL boss and Gil Scott-Heron producer Richard Russell and The XX / King Krule producer Rodaidh McDonald team up for a little EP post Ethiopian holiday after collecting a bunch of soundbites and cut-ups of traditional African sounds and instruments. The result sits somewhere between Oh No's 'Dr. No...' stuff on Stones Throw and the sample heavy world-funk of the recent Debruit 12”s. It's a real mash-up of sampling technology vs. true ambient sound and works really well for me. If you're a fan of post-everything beat-making then this will certainly be of interest. Haven't got a huge amount of time to bang on about it so I'll leave it at that.
