We've got a bunch of these pretty awesome limited garage rock splits in this week to commemorate the 'Bruise Cruise', and probably the most illustrious of the all-star double-headers is this little slab from Fucked Up and the Dirtbombs. On the Dirtbombs side there's a live offering which will polarise opinions. If you're not into the more noisy and experimental side of the band it could confuse you and possibly make you think your record is skipping. Never fear, though, that's how it's supposed to sound; a pummeling, crunching, instrumental repeato-noise riff that covers the entire length of the side. Flip it and Fucked Up are offering what I believe is a re-recording of oldie 'I Hate Summer'. It's just over two minutes long and as such is a breath of fresh air after the self-indulgent epics they've been dropping lately, but the trademark three-guitar attack and growly vocals are still present and correct. In fact it's basically everything cool about this band distilled into a bite-sized chunk of feel-good epic hardcore. The King Khan/Mikal Cronin one is my pick of this bunch of sevens but there's decent offerings all round on these.
